10 Common Grease Problems and How to Solve Them ....

Identifying problems with lubricants can often be a difficult task. Even with mineral oils and synthetics fluids where oil analysis is widespread and commonly used, the underlying cause of a problem may not be obvious. When comparing greases, the picture gets even cloudier and more difficult. Most greases have minimal characteristics that can be used to compare one to another.

Choosing a High-speed Grease - Machinery Lubrication Ind...

The NLGI number is a measure of the grease’s consistency. The higher the NLGI number, the thicker the overall consistency. The scale ranges from 000 (fluid like) to 6 (solid block). When it comes to high-speed greases for rolling-element bearings, the NLGI grade tends to go up while the base oil viscosity goes down.

Grease Basics - Efficient Pla...

NLGI grade is based on amount of thickener. Consistency describes the stiffness of the grease. NLGI 2 is the most common grade. Dropping Point: This is the temperature of grease where the first drop of oil separates from thickener in a perforated cup. It is the point when the thickener breaks down.

Yes greases like that are fairly common enough that pretty much everyone makes something similar with regards to the basics (NLGI 2, EP or anti-wear performance) Some companies only deal with synthetics while others use non-synthetics only and others have a mixture of offerings, but either way someone will have what you need if that is the grease being recommended.

Molybdenum disulfide grease - why I wont use it. - MFLens...

Lloydy wrote: I know many people use Molybdenum disulfide grease for lubricating helicoids, and indeed some manufacturers used it in the past as well, but I believe that many, if not all, no longer use it. The reason is almost certainly the way the oil base separates out from the grease. This is something I saw over many years as a 'hands on' maintenance engineer.
